Natural Dyeing group at Ditchling Museum of Art & Craft
I was lucky enough to be selected as one of a group of 12 people on this one year course in natural dyeing lead by experienced master dyer Jenny Dean. During the year we learnt about how to use good reliable sources of colour including Madder, Weld, Indigo, Woad Cutch, Walnut, Alkanet, logwood, Lac, Cochineal and Saffanflower and many others. We also learnt how to mordant fabrics to ensure the best possible colour and light fastness on washing fabrics and how to modify the colours using other substances to create a wider range of colours.
