Workshops can be taught on a wide range of practical textile techniques including hand and free machine embroidery, mixed media textile applique and stitch, hand felting, tapestry weaving, batik dyeing and screen printing. Workshops on drawing for textile design, tutorial based mentoring or portfolio development are also available.
Saturday 15th August 2020 Stiching natural surfaces & objects Workshop Sussex Prairie Gardens. The workshop is 10am-2pm £55 and includes materials, free entry to the gardens. It is a creative and experimental introduction to using simple stitches; couching, whipping stitch, straight and running stitch, as well as exploring ways to trap, wrap and bind natural fragments with materials like silk fibre and /or transparent fabrics or scraps of naturally dyed materials. We will be working with leaves, stems, bark, petals and other plant materials or small objects that can be sourced at the gardens.
Monday 3rd August 2020 Batik with Natural Dyes Workshop Sussex Prairie Gardens. The process will be easy for beginners or can be layered in a more complex way for those who have worked with batik before. Using cotton and silk materials you will practice using a range of tools to mark a wax resist design onto cloth. You will explore hand painting with natural pigments and dip dyeing with natural dyes.
10am-2pm Workshop £55 per person including materials will take place at Sussex Prairie Garden, Morlands Farm, Wheatsheaf Road, Henfield, BN5 9AT.
